Regional Phone Counselling Service
The Regional Phone Counselling Service is for students experiencing mental health difficulties and are missing out on necessary care, due to barriers such as location and availability of clinicians. In response to these barriers, headspace provides a robust clinical digital mental health service, catering to young people in the safety of their secondary schools who have limited access to mental health services.
The Regional Phone Counselling Service partners with secondary schools to provide digital mental health services from credentialled clinicians during school hours. The service provides care coordination, telephone, video and webchat counselling to students as well as guiding school staff and parents/carers in how to support the young people whilst they are physically with them.

If you’re a young person wanting to access this service - approach the student wellbeing team member and explain that you want to see a counsellor – you can choose to speak with the counsellor over the phone or via video chat or you can try sessions using phone and then progress to video.
Once we receive a referral from with the student wellbeing staff member, an appointment time is set up - usually within 2- 3 days – ensuring we accommodate the needs of the student and their timetable.
You will be connected to one of our clinicians, who will chat to you about whether you want your sessions to be on the phone of via video. They will work with you to make sure the appointments work into your school timetable as well as remaining confidential.
We will also keep in contact with the school referrer, with the students consent, to ensure there is a collaborative approach in the care planning.
Along with other online support options, Regional Phone Counselling Service was awarded Accredited for compliance with NSQDMH Standards. Read more about the Standards here.
