headspace Swan Hill releases new videos

headspace Swan Hill has released a new suite of videos in an effort to support the wellbeing of young people in the Swan Hill region.

The videos are the culmination of 18 months of planning, filming and editing by young people in the headspace Swan Hill Youth Reference Group (YRG).

Brizayah Clifford (aged 19), member of the YRG in 2019, hopes that the videos will help young people to see that “no matter what you may be facing, the first step to combatting any of life’s challenges is to seek help. You are not alone and headspace has got your back if you need to chat.”  This is a message that is promoted in all of the new videos.

The videos show inside the headspace building, the headspace staff, how appointments work and give young people a feel of what it is like to come in to headspace Swan Hill. It is hoped that this will introduce headspace to people and help people see that headspace is a friendly and welcoming place for all.

headspace Swan Hill’s Youth Worker Liz Hindle says, “These videos are a powerful resource created by young people for their peers, sharing the information they need to take the next step in getting help if they need it.”

The 10 new videos range in length from 30 seconds to four minutes and include local people sharing what they do to look after their headspace, the different services headspace can provide and how to get in touch.

“I love the storyline of the main video and the shorter videos are awesome for sharing on social media. I believe the referral videos are important as it provides a visual on how to navigate the website, helping young people to get in touch easier” says Ms Clifford.

It was important to headspace that these videos communicate a strong sense of belonging to the community – that is, that people would see these videos and know they are from our region.

The footage was gathered from different locations across the region, including Kerang Technical High School, Wycheproof P-12 College and locations in Swan Hill. headspace Swan Hill appreciates the support of these regional communities in the creation of the videos and the many young people and local faces that also feature. Liz Hindle also stated that “a special mention needs to go to local young person Bonnie Kelly who narrated all the videos and Sunrise Rotary who donated some funds to help us get this done”.

An official launch of the video collection will be held online at 2pm Thursday 3 September 2020. All community members are welcome to attend. Information on how people can attend can be obtained by emailing Liz Hindle at LHindle@shdh.org.au

The video collection can be found on headspace Swan Hill’s YouTube channel.
