Overview

headspace  Parramatta provides face-to-face information, support and services to young people, aged 12 - 25, and their families and friends. We can help with mental health, general health, alcohol and other drug services as well as work support. We also have a specialised service for young people who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis or at ultra-high risk of experiencing psychosis.

headspace  Parramatta is cost free and does not require a formal referral from young people. Some of our services may require you to have a Medicare card. However if you don’t have a Medicare card, please contact us for information on how to obtain one or for alternative ways that we can assist you. Please note our centre is wheelchair accessible.

If you have any concerns or complaints about your experience with our services, please speak with your clinician who can support you with putting your feedback in writing. Alternatively, please contact the services manager on 1300 737 616 or email at headspaceparramatta@parramattamission.org.au.

New referrals and walk-ins welcome between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday. Bookings are required for appointments after 5pm on weekdays and on Saturdays.

headspace Parramatta is operated by Parramatta Mission. All headspace centres are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Western Sydney (Wentwest Ltd).

Services

Mental Health Services

Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.

Alcohol & Drug Services

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug issue. 

Youth Early Psychosis Program

A headspace early intervention program to improve the lives of young people, and their families, who are affected by psychosis.

Youth Programs

Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on. 

Doctor (GP)

GPs can help with any physical health issues as well as issues related to sexual health, drug or alcohol use, relationship problems or feeling down or upset. Your centre may have a GP on site or links to one locally. 

Work & Study Services

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with work or study opportunities. 

Youth Reference Group

A group of young people who help with events and some decision making at a centre. Ask your centre about getting involved.

headspace Parramatta is recruiting to its very first Family and Friends Advisory Committee! If you have a lived experience of supporting a young person on their recovery journey, we are looking for people just like you.

The Family and Friends advisory committee is a group of volunteers that meet bi-monthly to:

• provide feedback on headspace services
• help improve and evaluate headspace services
• discuss barriers to young people in the local area seeking help
• participate in community events
• and much more!

headspace is Australia’s National Youth Mental Health Foundation.  Our mission is to deliver improvements in the mental health, social well-being and economic participation of young Australian aged 12-25 years.  To this end, headspace aims to be the focal point for youth mental health issues across the country. 

 

Due to expansion of our services, headspace Parramatta are looking for highly motivated, Clinical Psychologists, Psychologists, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists who are experienced in providing high quality services to young people to work as Private Practitioners in an after-hours clinic. 

 

Working as a Private Practitioner at headspace provides you with an opportunity to work within a dynamic, innovative multidisciplinary environment to provide early intervention and treatment for mental health and related issues in young people aged 12-25 years of age and establish a fulfilling and rewarding practice in partnership with headspace.

 

Our Private Practitioners complete work in assessment, treatment planning, psychological treatment and referral, and are highly valued members of our team.

 

What we offer

  • After-hours clinics to provide much needed support to young people after school/work and/or study;
  • Opportunity to work with and gain support from a multidisciplinary team (including Psychiatrists, General Practitioners, Clinical Psychologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Sexual Health Services, an Exercise Physiologist and a Drug and Alcohol Addiction Specialist;
  • Ongoing Medicare funded referrals of young people who have been assessed and are ready to receive services;
  • Full administrative support and consulting space which includes reception, billing, appointment confirmations, SMS reminders and all room bookings are taken care of for you.  Access to the electronic medical records database with comprehensive training provided;
  • Opportunity for peer support through regular care co-ordination meetings with the team;
  • Free Professional Development Opportunities.

 

Successful applicants should

  • Must be a fully registered Psychologist with AHPRA, hold Accredited Mental Health Social Worker Status with AASW or hold Better Access Endorsement with Occupational Therapy Australia;
  • Eligible to provide services under Medicare and be willing to bulk bill;
  • Have or be willing to obtain your own ABN;
  • Be willing to undertake a Working with Children Check and a separate Criminal History check;
  • Have demonstrated experience providing services to young people aged 12-25 years of age;
  • Be willing to undertake modest administrative support costs which include room rental as part of the contractual agreement.

Our Centre

Our centre is located on 2 Wentworth Street, Parramatta, 2150 (entry via Parkes Street). The office is closely located to Parramatta Train Station and is also wheelchair accessible. Alternatively there is a secure parking lot on Wentworth street. 

Our centre has a ‘no wrong door policy’ which means no young person is turned away without connection to appropriate internal or external services. Please note that the toilet within our centre is gender neutral.

How to make a referral

If you are a service provider and you wish to refer a young person to headspace, simply download the form below and return it via email to: headspaceparramatta@parramattamission.org.au

Please ensure that the young person whom you refer is willing to engage with headspace and is able to attend appointments.

We recommend that you follow up the emailed referral with a phone call, just to make sure we've received it.

Community Development Requests

The Community Development Team are available to assist with a range of community activities and events.

Mental health event: The Community Development Team can participate in community events and engage in health and service promotion.
