Lifeline Pilot Program
Lifeline Hunter Central Coast will pilot a new approach to support people who have lost a loved one to suicide through a free six-week program.
Two programs will run initially, one on Mondays at 6pm starting February 13 and the other Thursdays at 3pm from February 16.
Lifeline clinical supervisor Amir Salem said the groups aimed to give participants “skills and techniques to navigate through the grieving process” in a safe and supportive environment.
“Losing a loved one can be one of the most emotionally stressful experiences anyone will ever have to deal with,” Mr Salem said.
“Dealing with the loss of a loved one to suicide can add a layer of further complexity to the grieving process.”
Lifeline offer community-based support groups for survivors of suicide in Newcastle and Port Stephens on a monthly basis but Mr Salem said this is the first time Lifeline has offered such an intensive program locally.
