Peer Mental Health Education

Geelong

In 2021 headspace Geelong are bringing a new element to our mental health education sessions- Youth Peer Educators!

Our Youth Peer Educators are young people with lived experience of mental ill-health who, along with our evidenced based presentations, will share their personal stories to make our education sessions more real and relatable.

We know young people experience mental health challenges in different ways to adults so delivering vital mental health and help seeking information via a young person may make young people more likely to seek help for their mental health.

This new model also offers our peer educators, already advocates for youth mental health, the chance to share that message with a wider audience.

Sessions focus on mental health and wellbeing, looking out for your friends and help-seeking and are available to schools and community groups, with young people 12-25, free of charge.

Sessions can be booked by scrolling to the bottom of our homepage under the Mental Health Presentation tab.

The Bellarine Times visited our first peer education session at Bellarine Secondary College, you can find that story here
