About

headspace Castle Hill provides mental health support, services and information to young people, aged 12-25, and their families and friends. We can help with mental health, general health, alcohol and other drug services as well as work and study support.

If you are 12-25 years old, you can connect with us to arrange support. If you are 15 years old or younger, we need consent from a parent/carer/responsible adult to proceed with engaging you at headspace Castle Hill. To start the process to book an appointment, simply call our office, email us or fill out our online intake form and we will get in touch to provide some information on headspace services. A formal appointment is required for mental health support at headspace Castle Hill – we are not able to provide spontaneous walk-in support. We have availability for in-person intake sessions –give our office a call to book a time to attend in-person.

Bookings are required for appointments after 5pm on weekdays.

headspace Castle Hill is operated by Flourish Australia . All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Western Sydney (Wentwest Ltd).

Services

Nutrition screening, dietary assessment and education about food and lifestyle, also support around healthy eating strategies.

GPs can help with any physical health issues as well as issues related to sexual health, drug or alcohol use, relationship problems or feeling down or upset. Your centre may have a GP on site or links to one locally. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with any alcohol or other drug concern.

A group of young people who help with events and some decision making at a centre. Ask your centre about getting involved.

Mental health workers – which may include psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors and other workers – that can help if you're just not feeling yourself.

Sexual health screenings on site or links to local services. 

Workers either on site or linked to the centre who can assist you with work or study opportunities. 

Centres have a range of programs and activities for young people. Just ask your centre what they have on.

About the Opportunity

The headspace Clinical Educator supports the coordination, development, and delivery of a student placement program. This role will also provide direct clinical supervision and/or field supervision to student graduates. This includes the provision of task supervision, mentorship, and support.

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised person to facilitate excellence in integrated holistic health care, with the goal of improving outcomes for people accessing the service and the wider community.

On a day to day basis, you will:

  • Lead and support the development of student placement opportunities at headspace, with the provision of 4 students per year.
  • Deliver direct clinical supervision to students for the purposes of the clinical placement activity, when eligible to do so (i.e., the same allied health background/and or able to meet the specified requirements).
  • Support the onboarding, induction, and field supervision of student.
  • Provide on-site direct supervision including observations, mentoring and reviews.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with universities.
  • Engage in other stakeholder engagement activities that assist in successful delivery of student placements at the service.
  • Engage in headspace National online community of practice and training, Advisory Groups, education, and coaching.
  • Liaise with internal and external services to provide holistic support to young people.

Selection Criteria

Essential:

  • Possession of tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work or Mental Health Nursing.
  • At least 3 years clinical experience post qualification and experience or eligibility to provide clinical supervision.
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body (including AHPRA, AASW) as a registered or endorsed Psychologist, accredited Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse; and eligibility to register with Medicare Australia as an MBS Primary Care provider or an Allied Mental Health Professional provider.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment and initial screening activities to determine individual care needs, provide counselling, produce assessment reports, and assist young people to access necessary services.
  • Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of recovery focused practice.
  • Have a clear understanding and/or knowledge of the concept and impact of mental health issues in the community.
  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence
  • A personal lived experience of a mental health issue.

Desirable:

  • A personal lived experience of a mental health issue.
  • Direct clinical experience with young people and families, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds, and LGBTQI communities.
  • Previous experience as a supervisor and/or qualified supervisor within your field.

About the Opportunity

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation supporting young people aged 12-25 years with their mental & general health care needs. At headspace we provide young people with the opportunity to seek help early by bringing local health services under the one roof, making it easier for young people and their families to find the information they need.

As the headspace Practice Manager, you will work under the direction of the Clinical & Operations Manager, to provide office management and administrative support functions for the headspace teams at Parramatta and Castle Hill.

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Provide office management and administrative support to headspace operations
  • Coordinate the recruitment and induction of new headspace staff
  • Ensure appropriate documentation for credentialing, registration, insurance & service agreements of private practitioners

Prior to completing the form, please ensure that you have obtained the young person's consent and provide as much information as possible so that headspace Castle Hill's Intake Officer can determine the suitability and the most appropriate treatment options for the young person. headspace Castle Hill will contact the young person and inform you thereafter of the outcome of your referral with us.

What is telehealth?

We offer both in-person and telehealth service to young people and their families and friends. 

Telehealth services consist of any health-related communication via telephone and video conferencing platforms and applications.

Alongside in-person appointments, we will continue providing online appointments over phone calls and video calls using Zoom.

Accessing headspace Castle Hill services are free for young people 12-25 years old.

Some of our services do require you to have a medicare card.

Young people 15+ years old can get their own Medicare card by visiting a Medicare office or by calling Medicare on 13 20 11.

We also offer limited sessions outside of Medicare and the Mental Health Care Plan.

Our office is the corner heritage house located at 253 Old Northern Rd, Castle Hill (opposite 7 Eleven).
Our centre is wheelchair accessible via ramp at our main entrance.
The toilet within our centre is gender neutral.

It takes approximately 8 minutes from Castle Hill Metro.
Public parking (4 hour limit) can be found adjacent to McDougall Lane (behind 7 Eleven).

Our centre has a ‘no wrong door policy’ which means no young person is turned away without connection to appropriate internal or external services.

headspace Castle Hill provides free youth mental health services to community and local schools in the local Hills area.

The Service & Community Development Officer is able to provide the following:
- Attend a mental health event and hold an interactive information stall
- Provide educational presentations and workshops on mental health topics, information about our service and referral pathways
- Mental health educational and promotional material, and
- In service tour where you are able to visit our centre, meet our staff and find out more about headspace Castle Hill

The services provided have a mental health promotion and educational focus.
We deliver these services to promote positive mental health and wellbeing (please note that these services do not have a medical or therapeutic focus).

Please note that we require at least 4 weeks notice for requests.
