Who are we?

headspace Bathurst Youth Reference Group is made up of a variety of young people aged from 12 to 25 years. We work with headspace by volunteering at community events, tailoring headspace’s community involvement to meet local needs, and evolving our ideas into projects that optimise headspace’s effectiveness amongst Bathurst’s youth. We’ve developed a youth mental health forum called YOUth MATTERs as we think it’s important for young people to have access to great information that they can use to improve their relationships and mental health. We’re being supported in the development of this forum by Western NSW Local Health District Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and Charles Sturt University (CSU) Future Moves. With your generosity you can help us make a profound impact on the wellbeing of our community.

YOUth MATTERs: Forum Overview

YOUth MATTERs will bring over 200 Year 9 students from local high schools together with industry specialists to share knowledge and develop a practical and positive approach to building healthy relationships and tips for improving general wellbeing. YOUth MATTERs aims to empower young people to become positive change makers and healthy relationship advocates. Young people attending the forum will have the opportunity to devise school and community action plans that target key areas of change in their school, in their home, with their peer networks and the broader community.

YOUth MATTERs: Forum Objectives

• To improve young peoples understanding of healthy relationships with partners, family and friends
• To provide accessible information and resources to young people, schools and the wider community
• To enable young people to personally engage with mental health and youth services in their local area
• To increase awareness of ways for young people to get involved in their local community
• To allow young people to brainstorm ideas and plan strategies on sharing what they’ve learnt with their peers
• To allow students to meet other young people from their area and learn from each other
• To have some fun while interactively learning how to keep happy and healthy!
